Since it's my 39th birthday today, and I am recently crazy about longbows, I decided to hunt for a Widow takedown longbow....long story short I finally snagged Kevin Dill's takedown Tiger Myrtle PLX he posted in the classifieds a while back. I wanted that PLX so bad I sold my car! Yes I am that BW crazy and my wife said ..."you are lucky it's your birthday, buddy.."

In preparation for it, I'm going to build a set of Easton Traditional Only carbons for it. The longbow is 60#  @28, 64AMO, so I'm thinking a 340 or 400 spine arrow.

My 60# @28, 64AMO JD Berry osage shoots GT 5575s like darts so I'm using it as a reference.

Any thoughts? I'll be sleeping by the front door until UPS shows up, and checking in here periodically.

Oh to be 39 again! I had a PLX 60 @ 28. If you like heavy arrows you can try CX Heritage 150 with about 300 grains up front. Since you are shooting 5575s already, they will probably will fine also.

Don't forget pictures when it comes.

Happy birthday.

Thanks Gil. I'm pretty dang stoked, even with all the bows I have, this one will be special! Never considered a super high FOC arrow, but that sure could be sweet.

Have a PLX thats 59@28  shoot fmj 400 spine with a 100 grain brass insert, footed with a 2016, and 175 grain head cut to 28.5" they come in around 615 grains.

Steelhead

A CX heritage  250 is 0.373.Cut to around 30-31 inches and around 200 or more up front would worth a look.I use 250s alot for bows from 50 to 56#s at 30 inches draw.Point wieght from 200 to 300 grains and cut to 30.5 or 31 inches.I get good flight, good weight, quiet shooting bows and they hit very hard.

The widows cut to center and the Berrys are typically 1/8th shy of center.Center shot should require a stiffer spine. The widow may be faster than the berry as well possibly since the limbs are more radical. So that may influence the need for a slighty stiffer spine. You may try less weight up front with the widow and your 55/75s.They may fly just fine the way the are?

longbow55

My widow is 61# at 28, it shoots a 29.5", 7595  GT arrow really well. Total arrow weighs around 630 grains.
I always hit where I'm aiming, but rarely where I'm looking.

B/W lvr

I shoot a PSA II that is 62 at 28" and I shoot full length Axis 300's with 250 gr up front. I think 340's with about 200 up front might work out just fine. Frank

I have it on good authority that 29" 340s with a 250 grain head might fly about perfectly from this bow.

I've personally witnessed that one person's arrow is not another's...out of the same bow. I might need x arrow and you need y arrow. It pays to experiment with at least 3 likely shafts and various nock settings. I don't even start trying to find the correct shaft until I've shot a bow for a week. I have to get familiar and "automatic" with how a new bow behaves for me...only then can I focus 100% on what the arrow is doing. Mixing a new bow and new shafts has been a formula for confusion.

Nice bow collection!

I'm glad you sold that car.  Kept telling myself I didn't need another PLX.  You got a great looker there.  I have had 3 different PLX's all around 60# and 64"/66" long.  Have had very good flight with the 400 Easton FMJ's and Beman MFX Classics with 100 gr brass inserts and 125 gr points even at my 29" draw.  I start with a full length bare shaft with insert/point and cut off at the nock end until perfect flight.  My 64#@28" was able to shoot 340's good cut a little longer and a 145 tip instead of the 125.

Lamey

If you get a chance please post some pics of your PLX.   My good friend has a PLX 55@28, shoots Carbon Express 250's, 31", 125 tip.

Went with the Easton Trad Only 400s and bought some 100 gr brass inserts from 3R's. I have a buch of 145gr field pts and aluminum broadhead adapters.

These will be my new hogwhacking setup....can't wait. Look out East TX piney rooters!

Bow arrived and it's freaking gorgeous, like my Kingwood or Bocote SAXs, but different. I'll photograph it this weekend, if I can put it down! Gotta build those arrows too. Hope hurricane Alex (named after me evidently) is wreaking havoc along the coast and MEX....might be rainy.

My PLII that is 58@28 shoots 29" gold tip 5575's with 50 grain brass inserts and 145 grain points very well. I draw about 27.5. I would say the 60# PLX would get along fine with the 5575's. The other thing that is flying AWESOME for me is some easton axis nanos that are 400's cut to 29 with regular inserts and 145 grains up front.

Also, call widow...they will be glad to help you as they have been right on the money for me before with arrow questions.

Just realized the 400 is lower gpi than the 340s.....damn. Well on to the bareshafting. Trying CXH 250, Easton TO 300/340 and GT Trads. My draw is about 28".

All of these arrows flew pretty darn good. CXH250 with 125gr field pt and aluminum insert/ bh adapter. Easton TO 300/340 with 50 gr brass insert and 145 gr field pt. All bareshafted pretty darn good.

Last I shot and will go forward with 29.5" 7595 GT Trads + aluminum nock adapter, 100 gr brass insert, aluminum bh adapter and 125 gr field point. 698gr!

Some hog is gonna get it.....

Sending these Easton Trad Only 400s back unless someone needs a dozen untouched in the plastic. Shipping will be FREE.
