Is there a better/best time?

I have been putting off the inevitable. I have known this since I returned to shooting my bows after healing up from my shoulder repair but I have kept telling myself that things will get stronger/better with time and use.

Well it's been a few years now and things haven't gotten significantly better. I've finally figured out those muscles that were torn into aren't going to elongate any more than they are right at this moment.

The places where the tendons and ligaments were reattached to the bone aren't going to feel any differently than they have since the day after the surgery.

Quitting archery isn't an option and I pray it never happens. Therefore I am left with one option, to drop to bows with lower draw weights.

Now the question? Are there times/seasons that are better for trading/selling/buying bows.

Once I get it figured out, all my bows above 50# will be exchanged for bows under 50#. Then over time I'll follow "Dick in Seattles'" example and go as low as I need go to be able to keep shooting. I'll make sure I keep a bow or two in a hunting weight that I can go to when needed.

Thanks in advance for your input.

God bless,Mudd

PS When I make this change my new-to-me bows will all be longbows and the longer the better..lol

People tend to spend at income tax time. I'm gettin to a point that if I start to shoot more I'll be going lighter too! 53# is about my max.  Good luck!

no time like the present. try somwthing in 40-45?? range and you'll be legal in most places. You'll stll have a clean hrvest and will likely be more accurate and have more fun too.

Things tend to slow a little during September through November when folks are hunting.  Now is as good a time as any.

I had shoulder surgery Dec 8,2008. Pretty big surgery but started shooting about 25lbs 16 days after surgery. I am stronger now than before surgery but my 60lb bows really hurt me. I have sold them all in the past couple of months. Happy I did. Shooting all 50-55 now without pain. Find your zone and enjoy the bows in that range you shoot well. I just bought a Lost Creek NAT and I love it. 51@26. I draw 27. No pain just a big smile. Good luck and list the bows. If it takes a while to sell so be it.

Well, I guess it's time! I will start with my heaviest bow which is the  custom Mongolian Horse-bow. 58@28.

OOOPPPSSS! I'll stop right there and put it over on the classifieds.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Tendons and ligaments will strech and mussels will elongate. Give yoga a try, after about a year you will most likley be right back where you were if not better than before. Just a thought.

Mudd, I tore the tricep tendon in my left arm 80 to 85% - ski accident (I shoot right handed).  It happened on Dec 24 2007 (at 11:30 AM).   I will never forget when and where, it hurt like h@&&.   I got back to shooting 52 to 56 lbs. It took almost 16 months.  I thought I would not be able to do that again, but I stayed after it, used good medical advice, and am most of the way back.   Before the accident, I could pull 60+ without a problem.  Stick with it, and you will get most of your strenght back.   It is not easy, and will take a consistent effort, but it worked for me.

I've been fighting this for almost 6 yrs now and the drs tell me the muscle is as long as its going to be. I have strength to draw back something as heavy as 80 lbs but the shoulder hurts while doing it.

I can't remember a moment since the accident that I haven't felt the shoulder. Life is just different these days but I will do whatever is needed to feel it so I can continue to shoot and have fun doing it.

Thanks for the uplifting encouragement.
