Last months a had a pain in my, let's say, "string shoulder". I was afraid I was on my way to a tendinitus. Since a few weeks I am shooting by a coach now, who saw I was anchoring almost with just two fingers, the last (lowest)one barely on the string. We worked on this and now I am anchoring correct again, with all three fingers on the string.
Since I do this, the pain is going away and my shoulder feels so much better! The coach mentioned that anchoring with two fingers might just have been the cause for my sore shoulder.

Just wanted to share this with you guys, especially when you are suffering from a sore shoulder too!
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that string! [/i]

I don't know about shoulder problems, but I do know pulling with my top finger off of the string, in combination with being overbowed, caused me elbow problems.

Sounds good bud that you are working out your shoulder issues without the nasty drugs or surgery.

With me being a Auto tech I sometimes get my self into a sore situation from work & it helps me to use a heat & then a cold pad & then relax my soulder &/or my elbow when I get that way.

Knock on wood I have been blessed.

Glad to hear you are doing better. I had shoulder injury and surgery. Did not start from shooting but not stopping shooting made it worse and then the surgery. I have stpped and sold my heavier bows since and now shoot bows in the 50s with no problem.

Some times all you need is simple stretching exercises.

I had surgery a few years back and rehabed myself back to my 55#.After experiencing some recent pain I have dropped my weight by 5 lbs and seem to be ok.I couldnt bear the thought of another surgery and not being able to shoot .I will give your advice a try  for sure.glen

I get a pain in the left side of my neck. Gets really stiff too. I'm sure it's from shooting but I'm not going to stop. Wonder if checking my grip on the string will help. I'll give it a try. However you had problems with your string arm, so maybe not

thanks for sharing

So many things can cause problems w/ our proficiency in our chosen sport.  When it comes to pain it is usually excess draw weight. Guess you just never know...........

I had some problems with my shoulder also. My doc recomended scapular stabilization exercises. Shoulder shrugs, shoulder rolls, scapular retraction, serratus punches, and diagonal shoulder exercises. I got the exercise instructions from the Orthopaedic Specialists of North Carolina website. These simple exercises have worked very well for me. I have been pain free for the last year since doing these.

I would like to add, no weights needed, just some very simple exercises.

I use to have some shoulder and muscle pain. I bought a strap to the door home gym devise and the pain is gone. I think the combination of shoulder and upper chest work outs is perfect for archery.

Well, due to a fall, I had my collar-bone of the other shoulder dislocated. This was a bad injury and an operation was ever badder. So the surgeons decided not to operate me, ad leave as it was. There is a bulb on my shoulder now, whre the bone is sticking out.
Strangly enough, after a few hours trainig with archery, the shoulder feels MUCH better, as if the forces of the bow are pulling it on it's place....
