ok guys, ive retuned my setup for my hoyt. im shooting beman ics 500 bowhunters with 150gr heads, perfect!! now im down to chosing a broadhead and i want a 2 blade because my bow is only 48# at my draw. all my screw in options are odd weights, like 135 or 160. so i might have to buy the glue in/on inserts. ive never mounted glue on heads and im a little worried about getting the point out of alignment. but first, could someone tell me how much a beman ics bowhunter insert weigh?

and also has anyone ever figured on how much the glue melt weighs when put on the adapter?

I've been using the glue-in/glue-on adapters with Beman ICS shafts for the past nine years. They work extremely well. I'd suggest using those adapters and something like a 145-grain Ace Standard.

As far as glue weight: probably a grain or two. Nothing to worry about.

I glued up some long adaptors and heads recently,with epoxy and the epoxy added 4 grs.That is putting a thin layer on the adapter and not pushing a big wad of epoxy ahead of the nose of the adaptor.You can also put lead shot in the cavity of the adaptor or ahead of the end of the adaptor.This way you can fine tune the weight and get odd weights.#6 lead shot averages 2grs per pellet.

i pretty much use ics venture/bowhunter 500  carbons.  with the wide array of screw-in and insert weights, i find it fairly easy to achieve compatible point weight for broadhead, judo and field point.  

currently using a 190gr tusker concorde epoxied into 75gr steel adapter into a 100gr brass insert for an all up arrow weight of 595gr.  i replace the tusker with a 190gr field point for butt shooting.  a 135gr judo epoxied into a 125gr steel adapter is just 5gr less in weight.  

fwiw, i always epoxy inserts and adapters.

Standard CB inserts which come with ICS Bowhunters weigh 21 grains.

The glue on inserts come in all different weights from ~40gn to at least 125gn.

I second what Rob says about using epoxy. It will give you a stronger hold and more working time to make sure the head is mounted straight.

The regular aluminim glue-in/glue-on inserts weigh the same as the standard Beman inserts. Ace does make some out of brass that weigh substantially more for people who want heavier inserts.

I think I may be confused about the question. I thought the glue on/in inserts he was talking about were those that you screw into a threaded insert but are tapered for glueing on broadheads.

if your 150 grain screw-in field point heads work well, it sounds like you want a 150 broadhead twin blade.  if so,a 160gr screw-in isn't much of a difference than 150gr in terms of mass weight, and after some sharpening will be lots closer or less than 150gr.  how the bh flies will be of more concern.

there are lots of 125 grain twin blade glue-ons to choose.  match one up with a 20-35 grain alum screw-in adapter and yer good to with mass weight and foc,

magnus Stinger 150 with bleeders - the bleeders are very small and won't effect your penetration.  I have used them out of a 45 lb bow on whitetail - pass through not a problem.

well turns out magnus is making the stinger in a 150 2 blade( no bleeders) . they just havent updated the website. i just ordered some. so now i have options but im going with no gluing for now, simply screwing them in and go.

with a glue-on broadhead, you an opportunity to align the blades - just a consideration.
