Foam limbs

I have a pair of Morrison foam limbs, shoot great, no complaints but is it normal that they are so soft. Even when the bow is at brace, you can easily move the limbs, compared to my actionboo limbs the stiffness is noticable.

When I mean move, I don't mean side to side.

That is normal no need to worry. You do need to take a little extra care with them is all.

LOL...they freaked me out too. Kenutkcy TJ totally flipped out thinking something was wrong w/ them. LMAO. Love they way they shoot tho.

I'm really curious about a ceramic foam/carbon combination in the limbs. I am in fact researching manufactures that are willing to provide a limb of this type. What I find is that there are several manufactures that are dead set against them. However, my point is that I have enough recures and longbows to last a lifetime. I want something really different and cutting edge in terms of modern materials.
Why buy just another same old same old. But, am I missing something - Is there a down side to this style of limb such as stability, cost, etc? Thanks in advance for any replys.

Gary,

I think you hit it on the head with stability. The limbs seem to flex much easier than any other limb I have, the Actionboo limbs are much stiffer. Again not sure if it is a problem because they seem to perform very well.

If you can torque the limbs then I would think that they would be inherently less forgiving i.e. more subject to string torgue influence. Just a thought.

These are the prototype carbon/foam/ceramic Black Swan Wave limbs. You can't torque or twist these limbs, I've been trying to for a few weeks. I just got my new set that are the finished product, I'll post pics tomorrow when the snow ends. (The new ones are the fastest limbs Arvid has ever made.)

When you mention torque, you are talking about twisting. I'm referring to bending, you can apply slight presure to the tips, and the limbs flex out and in without much resistance.

I believe hes talking about twisting.Often reffered to as torsional twist.Some limbs are more resistant to that.Like a deep cored longbow limb.Carbon should add to that stiffness.Not sure about the foam in regards to that criteria.

I know exactly where you are coming from. Any small amount of vertical pressure on the bottom (or top) limb tip will cause the top and bottom limbs to distort and raise or lower the nocking point of your string accordingly?

Or if you barely squeeze the limb and string in one hand towardes each other it will distort the whole shape of the bow intead of offering up resistance like any other longbow you own?

my martin hunter is like that but I dont think it has foam limbs? It is really weird because I can flex mine like you are talking about when they are strung and mine is a 70# recurve! Shoots excellent, just kinda weird

i have a pair of foam core limbs and agree that they bend more easily....but they do not twist.

i had a Groves recurve that did the same thing and it didnt have foam core. i think Groves used the term Dyna-stress limbs. i also have 3 pc longbow with amberboo cores that does it. i think its in the design and lay up of limbs rather than material.
