Well I took the plunge and have made my first, and second, homemade flemish twist bow strings.  I used Brownell B-50.  I made a 12 strand 2 bundle string for my #46 Kodiak Special Deluxe and a 14 strand 2 bundle for my #55 Kodiak Hunter.  I served them both w Brownell #4 nylon in the camo color.  It was also my first time serving anything.

I use my homemade beeswax/toilet ring wax mixture for string making wax.  Nice and sticky.   :D

I used the DVD "Doing the Twist" and made my own flemish string board.  The DVD really helped.  I also searched out almost every thread I could find here that covered making strings.  It was "way" easier than I had anticipated.  Just getting down to it and doing it was really the hardest part.

Thanks to anyone on TradGang who ever posted string making tips and advise.

Both strings turned out alot better than I expected... I'd say almost as good as what I would expect if I bought them.

Making my own gear is almost as much fun as loosing arrows.

This week I will also be building my first woodies.  I have fletched up aluminum before but never any wood arrows.  Using Surewood shafts.  It will be my first time tapering and cresting.  I'll post some pics of them when they're done.

Now I am anxious for some warmer temps to see how they launch the arrows.  Guess I might have to move the boat out of the garage and the target inside  :p

I never thought of using bowl wax for making bow strings. Did you read that somewhere Brian? Also is there anyway it could have an adverse affect on the integrity of the string?

Lunar.. there was a post a couple days ago asking for recipies.  Appears several guys use it.  My buddy/mentor told me how he mixes his and has been using it for 20+ yrs.

1 lb beeswax, one toilet wax ring.  melt. pour into muffin tin.  makes about 8-10 depending how full you pour it.

Thanks for the tip Brian. I'll definitely be making me some home brew string wax.
