Does anybody know what the Rockwell hardness is of the old Bear Razorheads?  (the "greenies")  I was just wondering...... Thanks for your time.

Just guesstamating when I file them I would say 48-52 Rc. I maybe off but not much I bet!

they always seemed to soft for my liking, must be in the mid 40's. john

Soft enough to sharpen with a file and still hold an edge.. I am thinking 46-48.  50 is getting pretty hard to sharpen with a file.

They are not too soft for my liking...about 48 Rockwell last time we checked.  Fred knew what he was doing to get a head that was durable yet easy to acquire an edge.

They are great heads and will still perform like they did for decades.

Good to see I wasn't to far off, all those years as a toolmaker wasn't a waste of time......you can file up to about 52Rc, you just need a GOOD file! After that get the stones out and have some time to spare........Those Bear heads still sharpen well and fly great!
