I have a bunch of barred feathers i want to dye. If i dye them, will the bars still be visible?????

Orion

Yes.  I've used the dyes sold by Great Northern Quiver and Rit dyes.  They both work well.

These fletchings are from turkey feathers that I chopped and dyed. The red fletchings are the ones I did. Works good.
Isaiah 49:2...he made me a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.

Ok sounds good. I was just going to use ritt dye. Just didnt want to ruin the feathers.

The colors are subtle but I like that about dyed feathers.

If you want to go cheap Kool-Aid works good too.

BowPlinker, Get the water hot, just short of boiling. Add the Rit dye and a little vinagar. Put the feathers in and let them soak. The longer you let them soak the darker they will get. You don't have to use an entire pack of dye. If your doing about a dozen full length feathers use about 1/4 pack of dye. Works for me.

I leave them soak a good 20-30 minutes and then rinse with cold water when I take them out.

I just did some white feathers in bright yellow and royal blue and they came out bright, brighter than the natural barred feathers.
