Not happy with Jim Jones Firefly!

I ordered my third Firefly from Jim about 9 months ago. With my busy programme and his orders I did not receive it until last week. Still being so busy with my new job I did not have time to shoot it properly until today. The 26th being Australia Day and a public holiday - it was my ideal chance.

My last Firefly was almost perfect but because I shoot full high-wrist I got to thinking about my perfect bow. I sent Jim a tracing of my hand and instructions and measurements for the grip, the timber I wanted and the spec's.

She is Bubinga grip, Red Elm on the belly of the limbs and Carbon on the back. I stuck with my usual 62" draw and 42# @ 28. However at my draw she is pulling closer to 46-47#.

Well I did not think that Jim could up the ante anymore - but I was wrong. You have probably read my rave about his bows in the product section. However for this baby he pulled out all stops.

It is much more stable and quiet than my other two. He has changed the construction of his limbs and they are much more stable, quiet and with the carbon - even quicker.

However I am not happy. I only shot a handful of arrows out of it today and got my second ever Robin Hood (and that is shooting trad for over 20yrs). At this rate it is going to cost me a lot of arrows - ha ha.

Well done Jim - you have just re-established yourself as one of the leaders in the construction of Traditional archery tackle - merging the boundaries of modern materials with the skills of a gifted Artisan.

As I have said before - I have had over 20 new bows from the States in the last five or six years. They range from the B/W's to the Predator to Fox to Quest, Morrison and all the ones in between. I only shoot Firefly now - all the others have gone by the way. I think that may say it all.

PS Just wondering if some kind soul could whack up my photos - still haven't worked that part out yet.

Super nice bow Sutto, but don't think I could shoot it with that big hat! Congratulations.

I like that. With apologies to Jim I did some mods on my firefly that put my hand up nice and close to the shelf like you have and I made it a higher wrist setup by adding some material under my hand. Now has a grip that looks pretty similar to yours except now covered with a rubber grip due to the extra material.
Great looking riser and nice shootin'

What is changed about the limbs if you could elaborate? Just curious in case I need to get another one sometime.

Suttoman,

Perhaps I may be of assistance.  I've got several bows here at the house that will not damage arrows like that.  At least not in my hands.  If you'd like we could probably work out a trade.  I feel quite confident, that I could shoot your Firefly without experiencing any "Robin Hoods".  I'm at least willing to risk it.  Let me know if I can help  :)
Have a nice day!

That is uuu....uuuu....uuuugly! ( I meant the bow - not the shooter! LOL!!)

You could do with a little less funk in your life, I'm sure. Go ahead and send me the bow, I'll help you out with that

Very nice bow, very cool Robin-Hood. Congratulations! Oh, and nice work Jim.

Well done ozzie dude. Bow's a beauty! Might need some extra arrows if you keep stacking 'em like that.

Somebody asked about the limb difference.

I compared the two and the earlier ones have just the bamboo cores - I think three layers.  The ones on the new bow have the two layers of bamboo (I hope I am correct - I am at work and the bow at home but this is what I remember), and one layer of Action Maple.  Well it looks like Maple and it is all glued together in those thin strips.

Whatever else he has done has made for a very quiet bow.  I shoot with nothing on my string and it is exceptionally quiet.  I am going to order one of those fancy wizz-bang strings that Jim is selling at the moment.  Actually if you read this Tim can you chime in and give some info on those new skinny strings.  I heard they make the bow even faster and more quiet.
