Here is a website that shows how to make your own lampwick bindings. I used webbing instead of lampwick to make mine. It was cheaper. Lampwick can still be bought in bulk rolls.  http://www.wildernessrhythms.com/snowshoelace/snowshoe.html
Also you can make one from truck inner tubes that will work pretty good. I believe the Alaskan Trappers Association's website might have info on how to make those.

cabela's heavy duty binding are tough, they are the one i use.

I have several pair of BOB MAKI bindings that I
use, they work great, are easy to use, can be a
little stiff when it is really cold but just takes
a little more effort to pull them on. I trimmed
mine a bit to fit a bigger boot. they are made of
inner tube type material.

I perfer A Bindings, havlik snowshoe co. either has them or used to, snowshoe.com usually carries them, Iverson snowshoes might have them too, I've used lampwick with mukluks and for me they are not stable enough for traversing hilly varied terrain country, good on flats and lakes,

If money is an issue, make your own out of rubber roofing or thick inner tube. Cut a large sort of triangular shape out, then cut an oblong hole about 2/3 the size of your boot out of the middle. Tie them onto the showshoes with almost anything- zip ties, para cord, rope, etc. Then just pull them on over your boots and go, no tying or buckling!
