point removal?

Any of you folks know how to remove glued on points without damaging the arrows. I would like to re-use my Zwickeys on a different set of arrows, but I'm unsure of how to debond them without ruining the shafts. Do you dip them in denatured alchohol, or thinner....advice is appreciated.

Heat them up very carefully and they should pop right off.

If they are wood shafts a gentle application of heat will break the glue. Use something like a propane torch or the kitchen gas range and pull the point off with a pair of pliers. Be careful to not burn the shaft and be aware that some shaft finishes can catch on fire.

Hold the arrow with one hand, flick a lighter under the broadhead with other hand, when heated get pliers with lighter hand and twist off broadhead.

Ok guys, I didn't use a hot stick to apply, they are put on with duco cement, will the heat still do the job? Thanks!

Im not sure if the heat would work but I know it will help. Just keep the flame off the shaft and you will be fine. I use hot glue sticks (the clear ones) and have never lost a point yet.

Heat them up with an alchol burner or the stove just dont let them touch the flame it will turn them black and you don't need too much heat.If you go to #r website they show you a great way to put the glue on heads on straight.I did it last night and they were straight and aligned with no effort.

Heat works fine to break Duco.
When you re-install the points I suggest either a good hot melt or epoxy. Duco is at its best for nocks and feathers, but not points.

Tim,make sure you clean out the Ferrel of any Duco before you remount with hot melt

I boil a kettle of water, pour the boiling water in a mug, about 2-3", and put the arrow point down in the water. Wait 4 or 5 minutes for the glue to loosen, then remove point (very hot by now!), with pliers. No flame, no smoke, no mess! Simple way to remove points and you can have a cup of tea at the same time.

I put the point carefully in a vise then appyy heat to the unclamped portion of the head while pulling on the shaft-works perfect for me every time.
