I just purchased a bow from here on the classifieds and have shot it a few times.  Tonight I was stringing it to shoot in my basement to relieve some stress and I heard a crack!  It almost sounded like someones knuckle cracking.

Upon inspection of the bow I found the antler tip overlay looks to be delaminating from the bow.

What do I do? :help:

I've already assumed I shouldn't shoot it but how can it be fixed?

I would have someone who makes bows look at it. Play it safe!

Any one in the Upstate NY area building bows these days?

Look in the sponsor list and you should find someone who can help you. I know Two Tracks does bow repair.

If you could post some pics it is likely that someone could give some advice about the possibility of repairing it yourself.  If it is the limb tip overlay it shouldn't to complicated.

I would contact the bowyer first. You can get Whip
he fixes bow too.

If only the limb tip is popping off, it should be a pretty easy fix.  Is it a glass laminated bow?  If so, you could probably just sand the remaining glue/epoxy off the fiberglass and tip overlay and reapply it using Kwik-It (Three Rivers offers it).  I've had good luck using Kwik-It on the limb tips of bows I've made using fiberglass and/or phenolic overlays.  I don't know how well it works with antler, so maybe someone else could give you better advice here.

Get in touch with Joe Skipp. If he can't fix it, he can sure recommend someone who can.
He's an upstate guy too.

I would post this on the bowyer's bench with pictures. Those guys over there can probably shape up your load. lol

Thanks for the good words guys!  From the description it sure sounds like the tip overlay just popped off.  If so, plenty of options.  Original bowyer, DIY, some of the others mentioned, or the bow hospital. Should be able to put it right back in service.

Thanks for all the info guys.

It really doesn't look like a big deal but I contacted the original bowyer and one of the previous owners.  I will be sending it back for an easy fix.  I left the bowyers name out because I think the tip problem could have been my fault.

Any suggestions on a different bow stringer?  This is a short longbow and the bow stringer I was using slipped off one end due to the sharp angle.  The funny thing was I checked and double checked each end before putting pressure on it due to the tenancy for the ends to fall off.  I had the type of bow stringer that hooks over both tips.

Charlie, are you going to get it fixed, maybe I could help you out. Use a stinger with the rubber pad if the other one slips,Selway I think?
