Well I had a little bit of time to get out in the tree stand last night Nov. 27 and my wife said she would come along and video for me  :archer:  On the way in we saw several elk mainly cows and calves with one young bull. They were moving in the direction of our double tree stand set up and were unaware of us. We double timed it and got into the stand and got situated. The wind was out of the west and the elk were to the north of us so everything seemed in order for an opportunity. We could hear the cows and calves mewing and they came within 100 yards or so and then faded off into the distance and the gentle mews became faint and eventually gone altogether. My wife did some nice panorama of the area where we sat then we just sat silently waiting for any deer to move through. Now the sun had set and I was getting suspicious that we would see no deer at all when from the opposite direction, out pops this little guy. Katie quickly got the camera on him and he walked right up to our tree totally oblivious to us and what seemed all of his surroundings. He was in fact so close to the tree that I opted to let him walk past for the quartering shot. As he did I grunted at him only to have him stopped facing directly away. He began to walk away and I grunted again. Now he momentarily turned to the right which looked like the perfect opportunity. I hit about 3/4 draw and he continued to turn now facing me. I let down and he turned again offering me a broadside of his left side now. Tension on the string 1/4 draw 1/2 draw and he continues to turn. I was practically yelling the grunts at him when he started back towards the tree and now walked on the south side of it. Once again I grunted loudly at him and finally had the split second to draw and release. He was very close and I hit high. He instantly went down, I pulled another arrow from the quiver and put one through the top of his heart and within seconds he was done and we were thank full for having him expire so quickly. My wife is quite a trooper for getting out there and filming and she did a tremendous job. We got down from the stand and there he lay within 10 yards of the tree. What a great evening we spent together! Just remember everyone, we only saw one deer but if that one comes by, the evening can be quite eventfull. I call him the Hershey Kiss Buck because of the one antler that is deformed and reminds me of a hersheys kiss.

Awesome story, Jim! Congrats on the buck and a fine evening with your wife. Can't wait to see some pics. of the buck if you can upload them.  Also, I really enjoyed our conversation about a week back (Kansas) and can't wait for my new bow.

Good talking with you too Fritz.
Larry, the bow was an old hand me down that I can't seem to let go of. To busy to build an Elite for myself so I keep handing myself this old Double Carbon.
Killy....fortunately I met my wife outside of cyberspace, the only place that I tend to function half way normal.
We both tried to get the pic up but no luck. I will send it to one of you if you can post it.

thanks, Jim

Makes you wonder what caused the anomaly in the antler's growth. Thank you for the opportunity to be helpful, and for the story of your hunt. Clark and I both enjoyed reading it.
