Bareshafting ?? {Again}

hitting left with bare shaft for us right handers is definitely STIFF...so it'd be opposite for you southpaw guys... Right?

Alright AdamH, you've thrown us a curveball I guess.

Forget where the nocks are going...tell us were the arrows are going.  (Right or Left)

Then we might be able to get you on the right path.

If the bareshaft arrows are "grouping" left of your fletched arrows they are weak for us lefties.  At least this is how I've been doing it and it seems to work out.  Heavier points move the bareshaft group to the left (weak) and lighter points more the group to the right (stiff).

Us lefties complicate EVERYTHING!!!! Don't we?

Shoot the fletched and non fletched shafts and follow the last comment above.  It is correct.  I am a righty and just tuned some new arrows using the opposite directions for tuning mine.

Yes, forget where the nock is going. Go by where the bareshaft arrows are grouping in relation to your fletched arrows. Check out what O.L. Adcock says about bareshafting on his website. It's the best there is on bowtuning. Here's the link. Click on it and then click on "bow tuning":

I was haveing a fit with mine as well cause I was going by by how the nocks were pointing in the target FORGET THAT and do what ISHOOT4Thrills Says and you will be set

WOW! Stiff shaft,Weak shaft.How is your grip and your form.Are the points all the same weight,are the shafts straight.put some water soluble paint on the end of the bare shaft to see if it hits the shelf.I really don't know but maybe this will help.

Forget where the nocks are.  Where are the points impacting in relation to the point impacts of the fletched shafts?

For lefties...

If the bares are sticking in the target to the left of the fletched then your arrows are too weak, shorten or lower point weight or build out your shelf.

If the bares are sticking in the target to the right of the fletched then your arrows are too stiff.  If your shelf is padded out then move it in towards the centre of the bow, otherwise up your point weight.  You could also switch to a skinny 6 or 8 strand fast flight string which will weaken your shaft as well.

Well said, "freefeet". Just like O.L. Adcock says on his website. Many headaches could be prevented if people would only abide by Adcock's advice. It's the Gospel when it comes to bareshafting. The final word. Period. Please, save yourselves time and much frustration and heed his experienced direction on this matter of arrow tuning.

Different folks/diff. strokes. I concur w/ you but realize diff folks like diff tacts. I've never found a target medium that didn't alter the way a shaft penetrated as it drove forward, so that it came to rest as it was pointed going in. I gave up on nock orientation for that reason.

OL's approach, which he quickly points out is older'n he is and isn't HIS, eliminates the headaches.

Tuning can be problematic if you torque your bow, or pluck string, or have inconsistent release.  Adding in how the point plows into a target medium only made my life insane(r)  

Ol's outline hsa worked wonders for me when I do my part to shoot consistently...
