I just got home from buying a trail camera and it is junk. I called the manufacturer and they said take it back or send it to them. What kind of cameras does everyone use? I gave $100 for this one, I didn't want to spend a lot because it will be used on public land...Howard

I have 3 of the Moultrie 4.0 with IR flash and they perform very well for me.They are just under 200.00 and the battery life is amazing.I have left mine out for 3 months at a time and the battery life is still 60% or better.Game cameras are not for everyone but for me they are just another tool.I enjoy seeing what is on the camera even if i will never hunt that spot. The Moultrie i mentioned takes very good quality pictures as well.

They are a bit of cheating but they are fun. I checked one yesterday 5 dif bucks and 2 goodies!! Cuddy Back.

I've been getting pics off my moultrie for 3 years.  Not cheating in any sense of the word....just because I get pictures of the animals in my area doesn't mean I've killed them.
I truly enjoy swapping chips each weekend and then veiwing the pics with my kids.  It adds a level of excitement when my 11 years old son gets to see pics of the bucks we have been seeing while hunting.

Hey guys he just asked what everyone was using not personnal opinions on cams.

Howard,

For under a $100 the Wild View series would be a good choice. The Scout Guards are nice but run around $200. Just make sure you invest in some locks or security boxes.

Gregg's recommendation is a good starting point as well. Also chasinggame.com has alot of good info.

My moultrie SUCKS!! I've sent it back "underwarranty" every year for 3 years now. It is a cheap one. They do keep replacing it as each unit I get is new with a new warranty. Eats batteries like mad. And then unexpectantly just stops working. They say the software in the cam basically locks up. 2 years ago the flash capacitor went out. SOooo Moultrie has had good customer service but the product itself was junk.

LPM,

I don't know, but would guess baiting deer is illegal in IA.  It is in Illinois...

I'd ask the landowner if he knows who might be building stands on his property and damaging his trees.  If he doesn't, I'd call the game warden and take him out to the site. You'd have a chance to get rid of this situation for good...
