a lot easier to hang a portable tree stand last year. I can't remember how many trips I made up and down that tree, mainly to rest. Boy, was I bushed afterwards. I did not even get the stand as high as I wanted to. I think I may have to check out those ghilli suits!

But, it was worth it. I questioned my stand choice, but it seemed like the right place to be.
Three hours later, four bucks of various sizes went by. The biggest was a nice young 5X5, and came right through one of my shooting lanes at 12 yards.
However, the property owner, had requested that I not shoot any small to medium bucks so they would have a chance to grow to full maturity. And besides, he said there are a "couple of pretty nice ones" around. I guess I can live with that.:-) When I returned back to the farmstead, I told him I let a 5X5 pass, and he look me in the eye and I said " I appreciate that". Made me feel pretty good, all things considered.

So, the question. Just in case I decide to move to a different location. Can a mature buck be fooled by an old guy in a ghilli suit on the ground?

You bet he can.
Set up in some decent background, keep your movements slow & the wind in your face!
Practice shooting with it on & trim away anything that gets in the way. They take a little getting used to.

Age brings us the priceless gift of experience and knowledge. . . Priceless, but not free.

Gary,
Having such a difficult time putting up a stand( it seems I have an age & girth impediment) is the reason I went to the ground this year. It should be much more satisfying too.
