My wife and kids are getting the archery bug! Amy(my wife) just started shooting last week and is doing great!  Above are a few pictures of them shooting tonight. We are heading to the OSTA state shoot this weekend. Can't wait!

Congratulations!!!   :knothead:
But I'm gonna keep on trying. I know she'll enjoy it, also know she will more than likely never want to hunt. But.... sure would make it easier to attend shoots and trad events if she gets the bug again!
Good Luck with your Wife getting the bug BAD.....

It took me a good while to talk my wife into turkey hunting, seeing's how she don't even like to kill a bug. But man she's got it worse than I ever imagined once she tried it.
I'd give about anything to get her shooting some sticks!

Maybe some of that will rub off on my wife while we are at the OSTA shoot this week end.
Charlie, my grand daughter is getting antsy to go shoot with your girls, she keeps asking me "can we go a couple days early?"

Whatever you do do not let her get together with any other females that are successful huntresses. Before you know it she will be claiming your best treestands, demanding half of the hunting budget for her stuff and you will also wind up being her archery repairman having only half the time you used to have to work on your stuff. Not only that, when you take her on hunting trips she will probably garner way more attention than you and because she is female will find that being patient in a treestand comes naturally and she will wind up killing more and bigger animals than you. She will also make you feel lousy if you shoot anything that is "small", well, smaller than anything she shoots. It is called unintended consequences so be careful what you wish for. In addition, because you have kids you will have to give up half of your hunting time so she has an equal amount of time because someone has to stay home with the kids, cook for them and help with homework. You have a big can of worms on your hands, friend...don't say you haven't been warned.

Like Bill said... my first wife was/is an avid hunter, and has killed more animals than I have, although she uses a gun most of the time. Get ready for a big hit on the budget, too!!   :)

On the other hand, you'll always have a hunting partner, and good conversation at the dinner table. You're a fortunate man! I'll bet those girls know where meat comes from, too.

I would have to say I kinda agree with Bill to an extent and Don makes s good point. But at the end of the day theirs not much better than hnting and shooting with the wife and kids and teaching them all you know and watching them harvest that first longbeard or first deer.
My oldest girl killed her first deer at 8 with a gun and is hooked for life, she wants me to take her bear hunting now.  :bigsmyl:

My wife harvested her first longbeard 3 years ago and it was a double bearded. The next year she got her one on her own and has never looked back.
SO would say the Pros out weigh the cons although their are some cons it's worth it.
Good luck and straight shooting to you and them gals.

I hope you know I was joshing. My wife, Laura, used to shoot with me and would go "hunting" by accompanying me and sitting in blinds. She loved seeing the wildlife. Then she started to shoot really well but was unsure of her ability to kill an animal. One year at the Muzzy shoot she mentioned this to Michelle Eichler who told her that when an animal offered a shot no law said you have to take the shot. The coup de grace happened when she went with me on a bear hunt and the guide, Eldon Jandreau, let her sit a stand. It was her first time in a tree stand. At the end of the hunt she told me that next year she wanted to return with me but wanted to kill a bear with her bow. So.... she did! We spent this past weekend setting stands and cameras. It was a great weekend and in two weeks we will go try to get her another bear. It really doesn't get any better than this.... for me anyway. I really hope your wife sticks with it....your relationship will just get better....until she begins to think of "your" stands as "ours"....and you know the rest. Happy hunting!!!!!!!

awesome man - you gotta convince her to come with you to the AEP deer camp this year, and the GORH next year.  :D

She said to me last night "This 20lb bow doesn't seem to hurt or make me tired when I shoot. Maybe I could get a heavier one......"

Here we go!!!!!  :readit:    :goldtooth:

I know if she can take an animal she will be hooked. The best part is, she loves anatomy and says gutting one would be interesting so she could look at the organs!
