Here lately I have noticed alot of archers asking the question of whether or not it is best to leave their bow strung or unstrung and I had come to the conclusion that whatever bow I am shooting/useing that as long as I shoot a few arrows through it every day it is probably better to leave it strung vs restringing every day and I have never had any problems with my old bear bows or my Beeler which is strung right now and waiting for its daily work out.
Now last year I bought a cheaper custom bow from a bowyer here in TN. 35# r/d for my wife who was starting to show some interest in archery,in the past 2 or 3 months she has been shooting daily and really enjoying seeing herself improve in the sport and she asked me if she should unstring her prized longbow when ever she was done for the day to which  I replied as I stated above.Well just this morning I was sitting here in my chair studying for sunday school and 15' across the room directly in front of me CRACK! WHAM! BANG! man I bout jumped out of my skin (LOL) When her strung bow neatly propped in the corner beside her cornershelf loaded with pics became unstrung by itself and took all her pics to the floor with it too which was a big part of the noise. Now I'm thinking maybe I was wrong in telling her to leave it strung because it was a bamboo backed bow and that I'm ok in leaveing my glass backed bows strung when useing daily. What do you guy's think?

YIKES!!   :scared:

Man! What luck that didn't fail when she was drawing back on it! Whoo!!

I get lazy and forget to, but my intention is to always unstring my bow after use. Just the thought of leaving something under tension scares me. It just can't be a good thing over the long run.

You should never leave an all wood bow strung.

I'm sure folks will disagree, but I say leave recurves strung (wider, thinner limbs) and longbows unstrung (narrow, thick limbs).

But leaving any bow standing in a corner is just asking for twisted limbs.  Sorry about the bow.    :(

Most bowyers who recommend that you leave a bow strung will also recommend that you store the bow hung horizontally on wooden pegs with equal pressure on the limbs or string.  Nobody that I know of recommends leaving one standing on a limb in the corner when strung (or unstrung for that matter).

I follow whatever the bowyer recommends for the bows that I shoot.
