Hello All.  I recently purchased 6 single bevel RW (matching to my feathers) Eclipse heads.  I love them!  The only problem is that 5 of the 6 adaptors have come loose.  I thought I used enough epoxy, but maybe not.  Any suggestions on how to permanently affix these bh's onto the adaptors?  Should I get new adaptors as well?

Thanks!

Erik

clean, clean, clean - also make sure none of the teflon coating is inside that ferrule.  Lastly, be careful you don't starve the joint by pushing it together too hard.

Clean the adapter AND the tapered hole in the broadhead with acetone or alcohol thoroughly, and use slow setting epoxy.

The slow set stuff gives you lots of time to get the alignment of the broadhead/adapter/shaft right on.

This has worked well for me, on numerous types of heads and adapters.

Good luck.

I use 5 minute and clean first. Never a problem.

Thanks gents.  I used 5 min epoxy, but did not really clean that well.  The adaptors now have old, hardened epoxy and there is residual in the ferrel of the bh.  Should I just order new adaptors and clean the hell out of the ferrels or just sand the epoxy off and clean them?  I'm thinking new ferrels would be best.  Yet another lesson in patience being a virtue!

I'll tell you what, I been using gorilla glue on my inserts and that stuff is as good as it gets. I would not hesitate using it on adapters. Just start out with both surfaces clean then dampen one or both with water, just keep an eye on them for the first ten minuets to make sure when the glue foams up it don't push the two apart at all.

Use some heat to remove the old epoxy residue.

With the judicious use of a propane torch, you will be rid of the old epoxy rather quickly.

Besides cleaning really well,if I am using a fast set epoxy,I let it set at least overnite,up to 24 hours.

It may set up in 5-10 minutes but it needs time to cure and reach full strength.

We apply a lot of force to the ends of our arrows.I don't push the cure times.

If you want it faster, start gluing a day earlier.

Why are you using epoxy?  I use hot melt, and I have to heat them with a torch to get them loose.

Me too George. I just shot a 3D shoot with Eclipse heads and wood shafts. Didn't lose one in a target.

Like George and Sang, I use hot melt an do not have any problems.

A tip when using hot melt, do not get it too hot or it bcomes brittle when it cools and and has a good chance of failing.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.
