i am just getting into traditional archery and obviously have alot to learn,  i will be shooting a 1964 kodiak that is 60 inches and 50 pounds at 28,  my draw is only 27 or just over 27, i am trying to get all the things i need and am on a limited budget,  i was looking at the carbon express rebels, 4560's and wondering if those would be a good starting point,  i will probably put 225 grains up front,  any advice would be great     thanks   andy

They will probably work for you with that much weight up front. Just start out with a full length shaft and cut off 1/4" at a time until they fly good for you. Also you could see if Big Jim has any 35/55 Gold Tip blems.

From another new guy standpoint - I've made every arrow mistake and tried every Carbon there is through a 40-45# bow in the last few months.

GoldTips shatter the most in my experience - out of any carbon I have tried. When you get into 3d you WILL hit trees, stakes, rocks, etc. It is inevitable. I've had 3 of the 3555 explode upon hitting stakes or saplings and I've seen a lot of them do the same at the range.

Try the Beman ICS 400 or spend the extra money on the CE Terminator Lite Hunter 4560. The Beman will cost you a dollar or two less an arrow and it is every bit as durable.

I've put the Terminator through small tree trunks and have bounced it off everything you can think of without a mark.

Just my .02. Personally, I switched to an Easton 2018 because carbons just got too expensive. They have the same diameter shaft if you like a 5/16".

With your bow a 400 will be too stiff, even with 225 grains up front.  The 64 is a great bow but isn't cut past center, and the 400 is too stiff.  Get the 500's to use with the 225 up front, and you will be able to shoot a shorter arrow and get better flight.
I like the 2018 aluminum as well...but that would be a pretty heavy arrow for 47# (your draw).

George is right,
you need a 500 spine , which in a gold tip would be a 35/55 . I'd leave it full length and shoot it and take a little off it till you get it tuned to the bow properly.
one great method of tuning is at bowmaker.net, it's O.L. Adcock's method of tuning.

Smallwood is right about Adcock's tuning methods. Best I've seen. Here's the link:
