Yeah, tell us a story Ken. That buck looks pretty familiar to me!

That buck was shot in Wyoming about three years ago. I was hunting with an outfitter " Big Buck Outfitters" out of Sheridan Wyoming.

I shot it off an alfalfa field edge from one of the highest if not the highest tree stands I have ever been in. The stand was only about 15 feet up on the field side but was in a tree growing on a hill side ... soooo down to the bottom of the tree was about forty feet. I sat through one really big wind storm that finally scared me out of the tree.

That buck entered the field from right under me and came up the hill at a pretty good run and jumped right over the fence before I even knew he was there. I then watched him for about two hours feeding and bedding feeding and bedding. My heart was pumping to say the least. Finally some deer spooked from the other side of the field and a bunch of deer came running my way. One of them was this buck. Right at the fence line the doe in front of him stopped and would not jump the fence, she knew something was up. The buck was facing me with no shot opportunity about 18 yards away. After what seemed like forever with me 40 feet up, heart pumping and knees shaking the buck had enough waiting, he turned to go down the fence line giving me a wonderful broadside shot that fortunately I made. It's sometimes better to be lucky than good.

Our good Tradganger Allen Shafer also saw this buck up close and personal but was nice enough to save it for me. Thanks Allen ...

I sat that field about three times and saw as many as a 100 deer on it at one time. Beautiful country around Sheridan, your in the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains.

Ken, you know I wouldn't have let that deer go for anyone else but you!!

OK, OK, so it still hurts a little that I didn't get a shot at him.  What a beautiful buck!

That area around Sheridan is definately something special for early season whitetails.
