I have a bow by archery traditions, by Dan Quillan, Its a great bow but seems real stiff compared to my swift wing bow, both are recurves and I like the grip of the archery traditions but when you start the pull it is stiff from the beginning. A friend said the same and has more trad expierence than me. Reasons?

Different designs preload differently.  Some load heavy early, others don't.  Are the draw weights the same?  Did you measure them on a scale.  The stiffer feeling bow could just be heavier.

David McLendon

The Canebrakes(one piece) had a of of preload and loaded up right from the start. They are good shooters and are pretty fast for their draw weight.
Lefties are the only ones who hold the bow in the right hand.

Three Arrows

what is the weight of the bow?  Maybe you should let me shoot it for a while and soften it up?  The Canebrakes and Patriots have a lot of front end load and ease up when the limbs start to break over.  I love these bows.

The bow is 50#@28 according to my scale, I think the pre load is what I am dealing with. Now Three Arrows, does this really happen do they soften up or you just pulling my leg because I'm new to traditional.

My Turkey Creek loads up early ,and at first feels heavy, but then smooths out, as mentioned above. Not sure, but this seems to be a common trait among some of the faster bows.

I am sorry Amazon, I was making jokes...  The bows do not soften up, you get stronger and the bow feels lighter.  Most recurves I have used are heavy feeling at first draw.  50 lbs is a bit on the heavy side unless you shot traditional bows before.  I started using 50 lbs over 20 years ago and hindsight says to use less poundage and work up in weight over the years.

Canebrakes were preloaded, the Patriot was much smoother. The Original Canebrakes were not centercut and measured at 26" not the AMO 28". The Canebrake flat out shot though, good bow.
