Well, I was out of the wood shop for about a month. But I got the privilege to get back in there and start shaping the recurve I am building. I started contouring the shelf and the rest of the riser. It is starting to look like a bow! I love the "fitting of the grip to your hand" part.  Just have to remember to take it slow...you take wood off, but can't put it back on! Next visit to the shop I'll be working on the shaping the tips and putting string grooves in them...soon to be strung!

Can't wait to string and see what it comes in at...I'm thinking it feels like 58#@28". I'd be happy with anything betweek 55#-60#. Heavier than that and it will require some limb sanding!

Very nice Snag, but if you start making your own Norm will have to find another college fund.

HaHa...TJ, I told Norm I was building a bow. Told him I now have a much higher regard and respect for his talents!!!

Bjorn, I don't claim much of the credit for the way this bow is turning out. Without the generous man whose shop and whose time and experience he has unselfishly shares with me this would be happening! But thanks. I love doing this. It may be my latest lifelong passion. Already bought some more wood for the next bow!  Not a good sign....haha

That is a great looking bow.
What kind of wood is that?

Kurt, the wood is bubinga and bolivian rosewood. It has bamboo core. The tips are bolivian rosewood, white glass, and gaboon ebony. Thought the ebony would look good with the black streaks in the rosewood. The stripe is rosewood and the limb veneers are matching rosewood veneers along with myrtlewood. The piece on the face of the bow is rosewood too. The main body of the riser is bubinga.
