Right now I have 2 longbows, a 54 @ 28 Kabekona and a 58 @ 28 Pronghorn 3-piece.  I draw about 28 1/2 and shoot 30 1/2" 55/75 GT trads with 100 gr brass inserts and 150 gr pionts out of the Kabekona.  Wanting to up the weght with the Pronghorn, I am wondering if you guys think that losing that extra inch of arrow would allow me to use a 200 gr point getting me up to around 600 gr total.  Have not messed around to much with the Pronghorn yet but 125 and 150 seem to fly alright with same arrow.  Also would going with a 75/ 95 @ say 30 " or so allow 300 to 350 up front or would I have to load it up even more?  What do you guys think?

With carbon arrows I only cut maybe 1/4" at a time when tuning and only make one change at a time. The Pronghorn is only 4# heavier so they are pretty close, just make a small change and see how they fly.I find on longbows not center cut are more critcal of the spine,I had some carbons that were 2" longer then my draw and alittle stiff. So I tried front loading to weaken the spine and the more weight I added the worse they showed stiff. They were bouncing off the riser and not flexing around it.

I'm not trying to tell you what you saw but. By adding weight you would have to bypass the laws of physics to make them more stiff. I have noticed that by adding a lot of weight up front my nocking point will need to be changed as well. nurayb my reccomendation after having to scrap a dozed arrows is to tune your arrows by adding the amount of weight you want up front and then cut them down a quarter inch at a time as stated by JRY309.  Lots easier and much less expensive than buying a ton of different weights to change around.  good luck

I was planning on basically what both of you are talking about, just curious what everyone thinks.  Will losing an inch allow me to go up in weight 50 or so grains?   I understand the whole tuning thing just trying to front load a little more.

Nothing wrong with what you're trying to do, but carbons get real stiff real fast.  Like JRY309 suggested, I'd not cut carbons more than a quarter inch at a time.
