ive always heard about black widow recurves im just getting into the trad shooting and bought a cheaper recurve i enjoy shooting i shot a long bow for the first time and shot it fairly well was looking at bw long bows and i really like there looks but i have really only knowen them for their recurves are there long bows just as nice and i just havent heard much about them or are they knowen for their recurves?

Their longbows are every bit as nice! I have a 66" PLX. One of the best shooting bows I own.
The sleeve takedown is easy to take apart and is tight when together. Beware though, they are not a true longbow but have some reflex/deflex in the limbs. Some call them "hybrids" I don't care, it shoots a heavy arrow very well.

I'll second what Biggie reckons.

I was similar to you in that I had a cheaper recurve and wanted to experience a longbow. I really "cut my teeth" as a bowhunter using two Black Widow longbows that I bought over a couple of years - okay, I'm still cutting my teeth as a bowhunter, but they're a little more cut now than then!

Also, although it is always great if you can try everything first, I live in Outback Australia, and my first experience with any bow has been when I bought it and got it shipped over - I haven't been disappointed (I just read lots about what people say about various bows).

If you do a search, you should find some other threads about Black Widow longbows, and see some fine animals taken by them.

Cheers,

Ben

Above is a link to my "show-and-tell" from 2007, a year where I exclusively used a Black Widow longbow.

Very nice longbow. My PL would easily tune to a wide variety of shafts and points.Plenty of speed. It has a little thump on release but not nearly as bad as some longbows. After a couple days shooting you won't even notice the thump any more. They are also well made and durable.

I personally love these bows. I just received my second Black Widow Longbow. It is a 63lb, 64in PLX and it is quiet and smooth. These bows are built to last and are sweet shooting. I cannot say enough about them. T

While I prefer my Border Griffon, my friend has the BW and it is a great bow-I'd be very happy to have that one too!

Biggie, I go by the European tourney's definition for most of their competitions-if it maintains a CONTINUOUS "D" shape when strung it's an "American flatbow" if it also has a HH handle and also a shelf (true longbows have no shelf apparently). For over here though, I'm comfortable to say it's a longbow because that has stood for so many years. "Delta" shape, recurve riser, etc.-it's a hybrid and I hope we all agree on what a recurve is. Just what I'm going by myself to keep the voices down, no one has to agree!  It's just started to bug me a wee bit to open a new "longbow" post where you get eye strain making sure it's not a recurve!  :biglaugh:

I had an LAG, 64", 58# @ 28".  Shot it for 13 years.  Hung it on a set of moose antlers when not in use.   Went away, and when I returned the moose antlers had fallen off the wall, with the bow.  The brow tine of the antlers hit the bow, and must have loosened the glue.  I couldn't see a mark on the bow, but it came apart the next day on a 3d course, after about 20 shots.  I then bought a PLX, 66", 55# @ 28".  Have been shooting the PLX for about 3 years.  Both great bows, but since getting used to the PLX, I like the new grip better than the old, just hope I get as many or more shoots with the PLX as I did with the LAG!  If you get one, don't hang it on the moose antlers!!
