What's acceptable these days?

I have a bunch of Sitka spruce & Douglas fir shafts that are egg-shaped, out-of-round. I can feel it in my fingers when I rotate the shafts. These were touted as being "premiums".  :(  

Is this the norm? Do you folks see this in your shafts?

Check out Hex Shafts from Canada. I understand they are very nice and very well made. I have not used them yet but I intend to.

That is not the norm and I would send them back for a refund.

Yup definatly not the norm!!  Especially for premium shafts!

Oval is ont acceptable to me, either.  It seems that not all have the same definition of "Premium".  I can tell you that the Surewood Fir and Hlidebrand Spruce I have seen have been excellent.

Shafts made on a moulder frequently come out oval. A doweler makes round shafts. Oval can also be caused by too much sanding- the wood is harder on two sides, so more gets taken off the other two sides, resulting in oval shape. Either way, it's not acceptable!
