Hi all,

Could anyone with some experience with these shafts give me some advice. Ive got a 25gr internal footing, 100gr brass insert, 100gr steel adapter and  a 160gr BH/FP. Will the Axis 400 be stiff enough?

The shafts Ive got are full length, how much do you reckon I'll need to lop off to get me in the ball park? Im drawing 28" and the shafts are 32" total.

Also is there a way to remove the nocks without damaging them? I'll cut from the nock end and would like to reuse the nocks if possible.

Any input appreciated. Thanks.

Oh yeah Im shooting a FireFly 56-57# @ 28".

Down load the calculator from this thread and run the numbers.  From what I see, your shafts are not near stiff enough.

You will get all kinds of relies on this and I can't help except for suggesting you not load all that stuff into but one shaft. Will be a shame to screw the whole dozen up hoping something will work. jmo
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

Guru

My opinion is they won't be....if you draw 28",then arrows will have to be a little longer......maybe get away 300grs....but I doubt even that....

One bow I shoot is a 58# curve at a tad over 28" and my 400 series shafts will only handle about 250-260 up front at best......

Everyone is different though....but I think a better starting point would be a 340 spine

Thanks for the info guys, thats a pity I guess I'll have to drop point weight, maybe change out the steel adapter for a alu, and see if I can get it to work.

Hattrick

I`m with Guru, i`m shooting MFX 340s with 250 up front out of 58# longbow they tune perfect

I am shooting a 55# curve axis 400 with 225-260 up front,28.5" arras. Does great - have tried more - not done well.

Captain hindsight to the rescue!

I get the 400's to tune with 350 up front so you may not be too fat off, but I only draw 27.5 and arrows are cut to 28.

Thanks for the info Hattrick and J-Dog. Seems I'll have to drop point weight.

Been playing with that spine calculator, its great! Wish I had known about it earlier would have saved myself some money  :)

Matabele

Must have been typing at the same time texbow2. Your results are interesting as the ACS would need more spine than general.

That spreadsheet is great!!  One question, what input is the AMO spine input looking for?  I tried the spines as listed from the manf regarding carbons (.500, .400, .340, etc...) and get some weird values...

Thanks!

you need to convert the deflection reading to the spine poundage.  I had a spreadsheet here someplace that did that.  I'll look around.
