Anybody use this feather shape??
Looking at buying a chopper, and this shape caught my eye.
Normally I shoot 3, 5.5" parabolics.
These T-hawks, look like they might have less contact in my bow quiver

Have a look at the Vario Clipper it's a real nice unit. Herb's Archery Products caries them, not sure who else.

Contact Dennis at Git Er Done Archery in Alberta Canada for the Vario Clipper. I just bought one last week and I will let you know how it works when it gets here.

Uh....to more directly answer your question, Yes, I've used it and have no complaints. That cut is quieter than a high back shield. That being said, I like their "swift" chopper better.

To answer your question,

"Has anybody used the T-Hawk feather chopper from 3 Rivers?"

Yes, great shape and performs well....

I don't think 3 Rivers sells the Vario Chopper...

Ï have the T-hawk chopper and like the looks of the design, but I have had the same problem with all the Lil Choppers I have owned--the front end of the feather seems to get turned while being chopped and it comes out with a little hump on the leading edge which looks dorky and I have not been able to figure out why it does that.  The feather they send in the unit always looks OK, mine never turn out that way.  What do you do to solve that?
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

David, that's one reason I like to use Gateway feathers. The way their base is ground I don't have a problem with it turning in the chopper and giving a wiggy cut.

Tie two birds together; though they have four wings, they can not fly.

Thought I would bring this back up.  I like the look of the T-hawk, but I was wondering if I could modify it down to about 4.5" feathers like I did with the banana chopper.  Anyone else try this?

Are they quiet?

Looks like a great fletch shape that would quickly stabilize a heavy arrow.

I've used the T-Hawk chopper for about 5yrs. I like it alot,,very quiet,,I adjust the chopper a little so it's not a real high back cut.

kahunter

LPN, do you move the blade, or just raise the base?

They kind of look like a larger version of the short Blazer vane that is really popular with compound shooters.

LPN

Just raise the base a little and make sure the blade is not in contact with it.

I did this by cutting the full sized feather and then sliding it forward and chopping the front again at a premarked line that made 4 1/2" feathers.  I ended up selling it because it was a lot of work and I don't have much time.  I wish they would sell a shorter chopper or even the feathers in that shape because it is one of my favorite.
Chasing my kids and my degree for now but come next fall the critters better look out.  ;)

I was surpised to see this post again. It's been almost a year since I started it!
For a moment I thought there was another "onions" out there!
