Notice the eliptical pupils on that snake.. Dead give away, he's the real deal..

Most non poisonous snakes have round pupils.

I think all  pit vipers in the US have the eliptical pupils.

cottonmouth and moccasin are the same thing aren't they?

great job guys...i never seem to be able to put just one arrow in a snake... I usually end up freaking out and sending my whole quiver thinking "How am I gonna get that arrow back...fftt crap.. how am I gonna get that arrow back... fffttt crap.."

I came from nothing and I brought it with me.

It ws kinda cool yesterday morning upper 40`s .The cottonmouth was sunning and still a bit sluggish or he may have tested my snake boots. I stepped right beside him.WE were crossing a slough walking logs and I reached for the top of tree for balance. I looked at the top because I once almost but my hand on a cottonmouth coiled like that. I should have been looking at the bottom as well.Water moccasin and cottonmouths are the same .Often confused with the harmless but make you wet your britches water snake.RC

Thanks for sharing.  It is up to a balmy 28 here.  Walking in at 23 this morning I almost didn't need a coat,  but hunting opportunities are scarce.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
