Someone could post an exact response to this but from what I've read on a self-bow they protect it from moisture and add reinforcement to the wood.

On a glass bow they just flat out make the bow awesome.

I'm thinking about adding Prairie skins to my Martin Savannah since they're easier to find than the exotic and I just like the kidney pattern.  Although the bull snakes look good.

I'm mostly a longbow fan these days, but I must say that the extra width and curvature of recurves seems to show up 'skins the best. Exept for Osagetree's "snakeskin snakebow," best of both worlds!

Going to bring this up one more time to hopefully catch a few more pictures of these works of art.

Copperhead was my favorite but the Canebrakes are starting to win me over, like the bull snakes also.
