I am just getting started in archery and have decided to get my feet wet in the traditional style. Compounds seem like too much trouble (moving parts/adjustments)and too much start-up cost. My intentions were to extend my deer hunting season and to be able to enjoy more time in the outdoors. I will be learning on a Bear Kodiak Hunter (45#) I picked up for twenty bucks (with a few arrows).

In regards to the bow, I wondered if anyone knew much about these. The serial # 8T5757 is inscribed on it as well as AMO 60 (Length, right?) and draw weight 45#.

Any info would be much appreciated.

I'm not a Bear expert, but any bow you can pick up and shoot for twenty bucks is a great deal! Sounds like you found a bargain.

It is a 1968, and a great bow for target and hunting. Congrats on the terrific deal that you got on it. Have you shot it? Do the arrows fly OK from it?

So far so good with it. I have had it for over a month and have been shooting at a little foam block target - consistently getting 6in. groupings at around 15 yards. I know I have a lot of time in which to practice before I point it at a whitetail. I may try to get some squirrels soon. We'll see how that goes.

Happy shooting and hunting to you. If you're just new to it, make sure you look-up some trad bowhunters in your area - might be some on this site - and talk and shoot with them. It's a fun learning curve! Enjoy!

Welcome!! Where in the Piedmont NC are you? There is a great traditional club up near Maiden called the CTA (Carolina Traditional Archers). We have a shoot the second saturday of just about every month. Next shoot is Feb. 14 and we know its Valentines day and all that but it'll be worth it. Your first shoot and lunch will be free. Let me know if you're interested.

I am over in Asheboro. I just checked out the website. I may just have to come by and check it out. It is a bit of a haul for me but once a month is no big deal. BTW - the shoot is listed for the 7th of Feb. on the website (did they change it?)
