what do you think about this method of footing?

   Quick question about footing woodies.

I read in the bowery's bible three about making a 4 wing footing by cutting a V notch in the shaft, turning it 90 degrees and cutting another V notch. Then doing the same to the footing material and then gluing the two together. Would this method produce a stronger foot then the other way? It seems like there would be more hardwood throughout the footing making the shaft less likely to break behind the end of the footing.

A 4-footed shaft is the normal/standard , at least traditional, way of doing it.  The two-point foot is just a quick, easier way to do it.  Hard to say which is stronger.

As far as breaking just behind the point it won't make any difference, they are the same in that area.
