The ELB that "Pat B" made!

Awhile back i asked how a non profit medieval archery group i belong to should go about approaching the large archery companies for donatiotions.

I was contacted by Pat who said he would be happy to make us a ELB for a donation and that he does this from time to time to "give back" to the archery community. Needless to say i was totally taken back by his generosity!

I recently recieved the bow from him and WOW it is sweet! Here are the specs.... She is made from osage and has horn nock ends. Is 75" tip to tip and 71 1/2" nock to nock. It is 45# @ 28" and is just gorgeous.

We are going to have a special archery only event here in Oklahoma next year which will be held the last weekend of June and it has been decided that this bow will go to the over all champion of the shoot.

This past saturday i attended our annual Royal Huntsman Tournament so i took the bow for One... To get the word out what the top prize is going to be. Second... To get as much excitement drummed up and people talking as much as possible. and Third...just to show it off!  :D  

Everyone was awed and i sure heard allot of...."Wow i have just got to come and compete now!" Some lucky person is going to recieve a prize that is really special!!!

Pat even though i have already told you this over and over....i just cant thank you enough for everything you have done! and it has been suggested that if there is any way for you to make it to the event and be the one to pass over the bow that you are more than welcome!!!

We will put you up, take care of all of your needs and even loan ya some of the funny looking clothes to wear!!!

Thanks guys(and Bona). I was pleased to make and send this bow to Lance for his group and like Lance said, this is my way to pay back for all I have received over the years from the archery community(both traditional and primitive). When I first approached Lance about building a bow for his group I asked what style they were interested in. He said preferably a long bow but any bow would be appreciated. I figured since his group is a medieval archery group then a medieval longbow was in order. I tried to make it as accurate to style as I could and still make it only 45#(most of that era were between 90# and 150#). That was the hard part. When the tiller looked good, the bow came in at just under 60# and I had to reduce the weight and I know from experience this can mean trouble...but it all came out well. Actually the horn nocks are the most trouble, not only making them(and smelling the burning horn) but fitting them to the tips...and in the correct direction(that's another story of another bow for another time).
  If it is possible Lance, I would love to be there for the tournament and presentation. We will just have to see what happens between now and then.     Pat

Pat, any bow you would have sent would have been greet but of course a ELB was awesome! I have worked with horn and know what you mean!!!

I would love to hear the story of the ELB with backward nocks!   :D  

If you can make it that would just be the icing on top of the cake!

Lance, I built a hickory backed ERC ELB with horn nocks but for some reason it looked funny; too much set but I knew there was very little. I donated it to Carolina Traditional Archers a few years ago and didn't realize until it was too late that the horn nocks were facing back instead of forward. That's why it looked like it had set. It didn't hurt the way it shot.
  This bow showed up last year at CTA and was on the raffle table again so it doubled the money CTA got for my initial donation.     Pat
