I was out hunting this evening, and I decided to hunt on the top of this big hill, but by the time I got up there, I was all sweated up. But against my better judgement, I decided to just get up a tree. I went to the downwind side of the property and set up. Right before dark, four does passed me at about 40 yds. I could tell something was bothering them as they trotted away. Soon after, a 9 point, about 20" wide comes right to me. At about 15 yds, he gets a whiff of me, and circles around me, never giving me a shot. I think, "oh well, he's more interested in the does that what I am, I'll get another crack at him." So I just sit back down and watch him walk off. About ten minutes later, I hear this WHACK, then a very close THUMP, then running, then quiet. It's getting dark, so I climb down and head down the hill. Only to find the guy who lives across the street looking for the buck I just saw! After I came up the hill, he snuck in and put up his stand! To make matters worse, he hit him bad and as of 9:30 tonight, still hadn't found him! I know these things happen, and bad hits are always a possibility, but after getting that close only to have somebody else cripple him just frustrates the crap out of me. Sorry to rant, just wanted to blow off some steam.
