A friend gave this bow to me recently...it's a Berry "Sepentine", says L.A. Berry on the limb..Deep Trapezoid limbs - lots of lams in the lay-up. 64" - 54#@27" Laminated tips, but very narrow.
I'll post pics later tonite.

Any info on this? Is it a J.D. Berry or someone else? Thanks

Bird Dog

Must be somebody else. The J and D stand for James and Dan. I don't think Dan is still making bows, only James.

Mike Gerardi

James is the only one still making bows.  I have not heard of a bow made by either of them then or now called a Sepentine.  But If you know James ...anything is possible.  Need to see a pic.

Is there an "ant" at the tip of the top limb?
I think it mat be an earlier Berry bow.
LA Berry could stand for anyone's name who it was made for.

I don't see an ant on the limb, but there is a set of copperhead skins on this rig, so maybe it's covered up.The limb tips are decidely flipped up sharply at the ends. They look rather fragile, but I'm sure that the multiple laminations give it lots of strength....

My mistake on the name there....looks like a  stylized JD Berry  with an arrow head on the tail of the 'y' in Berry and appears to be stylized fletch to the left of the 'JD'. The J looks like a 'L', but that is definately a 'D'next to it. This is on the belly of the upper limb.'Serpentine' is in black ink on the bottom limb. Tips are barely 3/8" wide at the groove.

I couldn't wait to shoot it, and it shoots very well for me, but it's hard to get really good groups in the dark.LOL. Looks like I have a JD Berry here.... soory, pics tomorrow.

UPDATE:
Just got off the phone with Jim Berry.... This is one of his bows from about the mid 90's.
Trapezoid limbs with Burmese Python skins on the back. There never was a "Berry Bug" on the Serpentines. He told me the story behind that bug(ant) whatever....he says it represents a cockroach! How about that....he's real nice guy and was happy to share all kinds of tidbits with me. Gonna build me a nice string for it too.
Thanks Jim....

All Berry's bow shoot great. I own two and thinking about a third. Very few bows shoot as well and most never get the compliments Berry does...

The Whittler

I have a JD Berry, and the bug is a cricket which is for good luck.

Thanks Shakes'...the tips are about 3/8th wide...at the groove. Very slim, but look very strong.
