Can someone smarter than me help me figure something out.  Why do I need such a stiff arrow.

Specs.

Black Widow PSA
45@28
I draw 29.5 that puts it right at 48lbs on Black Widows scales
Seal Skin shelf rest

I shoot arrows that are right at 30.5" long.

I have to shoot 400 spine arrows, with 145 grain tips.  This is what bareshafts.

Does this seem right?

I see people shooting arrows with 200-250 or 300 grains up front.  I would have to bump up to a 340 spine shaft to acheive that.

Thanks,

Scott

If Geronimo shot a Black Widow, you would be speaking Apache.

It's because of your long draw plus the BW is cut way past center.Your set up doesn't seem extreme to me.Unless you are unhappy with your arrow weight I wouldn't sweat it.

Not at all, just build out your side plate. Bows adjusted to shoot something closer to their draw weight are more forgiving then ones close to centershot that require higher spines.....O.L.

Onestringer:
To answer your question, the Widow is cut 3/16" past center at the strike plate. That will place the center of an 11/32 dia shaft dead center of the limbs of the bow. With that setup the arrow shaft does not need to go through much paradox, If you don't increase spine the shaft it will shoot weak or to the right for a RH shooter. One thing to be concerned about with smaller dia. carbon shafts the center of the shaft will actually be past center of the limbs, so as O.L. said you might need to move the strike plate out some, so it at least is in the center of the shaft. Or by moving it farther out so its less than center, you will be able to shoot less spine.

Aromakr,

Thanks for that very understandable explanation.
