I have always thought about trying a decoy so i would love to hear some input from those who have!   Do they work ?? It is worth the work ???  Should i???

I will use a decoy every time I think the conditions and the terrain are right. I only use a buck decoy.  Decoys will spook some deer, but they bring the big boys in. They work. They are worth the effort. You should. It won't hurt anything and it can make for some very exciting hunting and an opportunity to see some interesting buck behavior.

What do you do about your scent on the decoy? I've used one a couple times but trying to keep it scent free is tough.

I don't worry about it too much. I used to wear rubber gloves when I handled the decoy, but it was a hassle and I ended up wollowing all over the damn thing anyway trying to set it up. I just spray it down with Scent Killer and Deer Dander after I have it positioned. Then I usually sprinkle some buck urine on the ground around the decoy, or put some gel on the decoy. I try to position the decoy so it is visible, but I don't want it to be easy for the deer to get within a few feet of the decoy. If a buck gets that close he will spook either before he gores the decoy or after. Be ready to shoot when a buck comes in. The deer are usually so focused on the decoy you don't have to worry about them seeing you draw.

I love decoying, been doing it in Ohio for about 10 yrs with great results especially when rattlin and callin a real blast in November, I like to put um in the open so the bucks can see the intruder.

Thank guys for responding, i apologize for not seeing the other post on decoys. I do have a question on placement of the decoy? is it similar to turkey set ups???

I tried a whitetail doe decoy ONE DAY last year and the results were pretty much what I had read here.

First of all, if you are after does, I would forget it.  I had does either shy away from long distance or snort. (I guess they do not trust females new to the area.)

I did have one buck come in for a look but alerted when I made noise in the blind.

If after a buck only, it's worth a try.
