Stress Cracks

Hello i am refinishing an old bow.  I was wondering since there are several stress cracks in the glass if i can put another layer of glass over them or if i can somehow remove them and do the glass all over again?  Any advise on this would be a great help since i have never worked with glass before.  Thank you all in advance.  :eek:

Most guys seal the cracks with locktite 450.I heard from another member that he fills the cracks when the bow is drawn.You would have to rig something up to do it that way.I am sure someone has some more detailed info for you.Hopefully they chime in.

The glass used in bows is a high pressure vacuum lay-up. Putting a fiberglass patch over them really isn't going to help. If the stress cracks are in the glass longtitudinally, try to squeegee in some epoxy with the edge of a razor blade. Laterally, forget it.

I've seen a white haze appear at the fadeouts of my recurves when they start getting old. I shoot them for a while longer then retire them and build a new one(!). Working bows don't last forever.

They are definitely not the prettiest, but longitudinal lines generally are just cosmetic. You can squirt in some superglue and sand smooth before finish. Loctite 420 is the favorite these days.

Is it the 420 the red or green?  And if it isn't going to realy affect the performance of the bow i may just tape the riser off and Camo the limbs just to make it pretty.  Thanks for the info.

my old HH is full of these on both sides just beyond the riser. Seems to shoot ok, got it cheap, just seal it with CA and forget about it. It's a tool, not a trailer queen. No one sees it when i'm in the bush and i don't worry about getting scratches in it. I get out the military camo face sticks and camo it anyways.

Spray it black and you will never have a problem..
