hello everyone. i just signed up today. i havent been bow hunting in a few years, but hopefully i will get a chance this year.

i am looking for directions on making a flemish string without a jig. i know that there is a video on youtube, but the sound wont run well on my computer. nothing on youtube works well for me. does anyone out there have the instructions for making the cuts at the proper length? i would like to see how its done, regardless of whether you think its a good idea or not. if it seems impractical to me, ill just make a jig.

thanks

Walt Francis

Here is a link for making the jig:

For instructions on tying the string, I never got it right until I bought the DVD "Do'in the Twist", but I can be a little dense at times.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

look thru the threads, I'm sure you will find one on making a string and jig.

i know how to make both the string and the jig. im looking for making the string without the jig.

Jigs don't do a thing for making the string. All a jig does is measure the strands.
Figure out how long you want your string, add 16" and cut the strands to length. When you make the string use 8" on each end for starting the splice. If that is too complicated then just cut the strands too long and use a bowyer's knot on the bottom limb and a regular eye on the top.
I like using a jig because I make a lot of different length strings, but you certainly don't need one for making strings.
Tie two birds together; though they have four wings, they can not fly.

thank you. how do you adjust the length of the strands to get the taper on the ends?

SCATTERSHOT

Preharin, you can cut a string every so often as you twist, to get the tapered effect, but I don't do it, and the strings come out OK. Personal preference.

If you cut all the strands the same length then stagger the strands 1/2" that will give you the taper
