Kenny,
I am also in Ocala with Robertfishes, a few hours north of Ft. Myers,
If you can come up this way we have a guest membership in our hunt club and you'll be more than welcome to spend a few weekends with us.
Archery season is Sep 20-Aug 19, then we have crossbow season (trad bows are permitted) and then black powder season (again, trad bows are permitted)then in Nov. until Jan. general gun season, (yep, bows are permitted)
PM me when you get to sunny FL if you'd like, and welcome!

I'm up near John and Robert in the center of the state.  My in-laws live in Naples though and i get down there from time to time.  It is only 30 minutes from where you will be.  What is your time frame?

First off I'll be heading there for two weeks around the first of November (the boss doesn't hunt so he doesn't know not to send me out of town during the Ohio rut)  :banghead:    :banghead:

After this job it is up in the air as to when I head down again.

As it turns out, I got to go to Bill's place out in the country a couple of times. Last Sunday we met a couple miles from his place and I followed him home.

Bill and Kasey (sp?)live way back off the beaten path on a beautiful piece of "country" Florida with their two fine sons, Wyatt, and Will. We, Bill, me, and both boys, shot the breeze, and the bows. They invited me to stay for supper and we had a fine feast,

After supper we chated for a while annd I was invited back. Work kept me busy all week including Saturday, but Sunday evening was scheduled for a hog hunt. In Fla., on private land, it is not required of an out-of-stater like myself to buy a license for hogs.

So, I showed up at Bill's place around 3:45pm and we proceded to stretch out a bit a get our selves shot in. After several rounds at the target butts we were ready. Now I wasn't able to bring my bow on this trip, so Bill was nice enough to provide me with a smooth shooting 3pc recurve, I'm blanking on the make right now.

Anyhow we, Bill, Wyatt, and myself headed out back to see what we coukd see. Wyatt is 6 yrs old and was very good on stand, I was impressed.

Bill has some good stands set up and we were soon in place and ready. Bill and his son shared a two man ladder stand, and I was about ten yards away in a fixed stand. Bill said to watch over my left shoulder about a half hour before dark and I should see some action.

Sure as shootin, around 5pm I heard some rustlin behind me and to the left. I turned my head slightly and there come about a hundred eighty pound boar.

Now I've never hunted hogs being from Ohio, so when my heart started pounding out of my chest, and my breathing stopped, I had to concentrate hard to get ahold of myself. After some deep breathing excersizes, I was back in control. When he got behind a tree, I eased onto my feet and got ready. He started feeding about 15 yards out, but he wasn't turned right and I had a small limb. He was a bit jittery and once he started to leave, but soon he moved closer and came broadside, then slight quartering away.

All this time I was telling myself to remember to pick a spot, and to make sure I bend at the waist. When he quartered slightly away, I picked a spot, tight behind his left front leg and low, drew back, and phheeet, right over his back. He jumped a little and settled back down, I got another arrow nocked and about that time a noise spooked him off.

I kept kicking myself for not bending at the waist. A perfect setup, a  beautiful south Florida evening, some new friends, and a nice eatin hog. I was greatful that it was a clean miss and not a wounded critter. Better luck next time.

Thank you Bill and family for making this trip a bit more barable. I don't like being away from my family, but with Trad Gang, I have family everywhere.
Thank you my friend.

Kenny,

Thank you for the kind words and a couple great afternoons.  Sorry you were unable to connect on that hog.

You are great guy and I am proud to call you a friend of the Green Family.

Hopefully we will be able to get you back on a hog the next time you get down.

Ps. The boys want to know when Mr. Yoder is coming back to shoot bows.

Bill
