I have the plans and video for the binghams 1 piece longbow and while watching the video tonight something puzzled me. It says to use a set of .002 reverse tapers under the formica strip if you are using the clamping or rubber band method. Does anybody know why you would need these reverse tapers?? Thanks

Adam,
In effect they are pressure strips I believe.... not sure why they think you'd need the tapers though.

What order is the stack of lams and riser in? They used to want a reverse taper put in to make the strait riser and the regular tapers fit together better,if that makes any sense?
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I asked Elmont this exact question some time ago and here is his response:

If you lay up your bow in the traditional way with the tapered lamination on top (belly) of the riser, you do not need the reverse taper in the mold.  If you lay up your bow with the tapered lamination underneath the riser, you do need the reverse tapers in your mold.  The vast majority of people use the traditional lay-up so we stopped putting the tapers in the press kits to save the customer some money.

Sincerely,
Elmont

Good luck on the project.
