A friend is looking into trying out some heavily front loaded carbon shafts. His bow is a Martin hunter, #58@28 and he draws about 28.5 inches. He's looking at the Beman ICS bowhunter shafts with around 375 grains up front to get a finished arrow weighing in the neighbourhood of 650 grains. Would you suggest the 340 or the 400 spine shaft for a #58 recurve when using 350 – 400 grains up front?

Also, I noticed the ICS 400 outer shaft diameter is 9/32 inch while the 340 is 5/16. Are both shafts compatible with the brass inserts available for standard 5/16 inch shafts?

Thanks

With that much weight up front and with a recurve cast past center I would start with the 340.All the Beman ICS take the same inserts.I shoot Beman ICS Classic's in 500's,400's and 340's and camo 300's and they all except the standard 5/16 brass inserts.I would start full length with the weight he wants up front and shoot and trim from there.

Thanks for the info, especially the clarification regarding inserts.
