Hello everyone-my first post here and was hoping I could get a little input from the experts.
Back in college, I worked for a couple of years for Dan at Archery Traditions and my biggest regret is that when I graduated I was still so broke I couldn't afford to buy a Bamboo Longhunter or Red Elm Longhunter even at the employee pricing...at any rate, I'm now swinging back toward traditional and have zero frame of reference to which bows currently available will perform similarly to Dan's.  I've simply been out of the game too long to keep up with things, but REALLY liked the way that the Bamboo LH looked, handled, and shot.
Does anyone have a few suggestions on bows for a guy looking to get back into it?  Do pre-owned Bamboo LH's come up for sale from time to time?  If I could find one in good shape it would be my first choice for a number of probably obvious reasons.

By the way, I was impressed to see a section for Dan in the forums but saddened to hear about his passing.  He was definitely fun to work for.  I can also verify the existence of the Canebrake rattler named "Baby"...

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

Hello Brad,

Longhunters do show up occasionally. I just traded one on the forum myself. You might try a "want to buy" ad. The bows Dan had made by Jimmy Taylor for his on-line store are modeled after the Longhunter, and less expensive if you can find one of them. They're called the Kinkoho, or something like that. I have one at 64", and it handles much like a Longhunter, although it may not have quite the cast of the original.

Did you ever get to sleep with Baby??

92 Dawg and Don Stokes, MR. Quillian, with a capital Q was the, shall we call him, gentleman that brought me back into traditional archery.
I still own, sitting on the shelf, an unfinished longbow kitbow. I've also owned 2 other bows by Mr. Q, and wish that I still had possesion of them both.
Presently still searching for a set of 50# limbs for an old Patriot.

Don, I never had to sleep with Baby, but I spent plenty of time around her.  Dan had her aquarium right next to the arrow saw and workbench where we'd taper/glue up arrows.  I think he knew I hated snakes, so he picked me and another guy to help him with the "photo shoot" for the Canebreak when it was just coming out and Dan took pics of it and Baby together for the catalog.  I didn't get within 20 feet of that dang snake when he had it out of it's aquarium.

Brad, Dan was really proud of the Canebrake pictures. Baby really was his baby, as they all were. Every year he released whatever snake he had captured back into the wild for winter, not wanting to mess up their natural cycle by keeping them indoors. Next spring, he just caught another one. He showed me how he caught them bare-handed, even big diamondbacks, but for some reason I never got to try for myself...

Fred, I have some 50# Patriot limbs, but ain't nobody gettin' 'em! (You spelled it right.) My oldest son, also named David, is using them.

My mother used to tell me, "Don't say ain't, cause ain't ain't right".
