I'm wanting to serve a 12 strand fast flight string to provide proper nock fit for gold tip or easton nocks. What diameter and type of serving material has worked best for you folks that have experimented with this?

Bjorn

Just lay in some strands till you have a perfect fit for your particular nock. You can make it any size you want.

Thx Bjorn
By laying in strands do you mean lenghwise down the string? As I don't want to buy several different sizes of serving, I was hoping to get an idea of what dia. would be close. The easiest for me to get is .022.

Carbon Caster

Exactly what string material?  If we know that, we could probably recommend a correct size.  BTW I HATE laying in extra strands under serving!!!!

If it's in your way, move it.

I normally use 14 strand TS-1+ and either .025 No. 62 serving or .030 diamondback serving (same final diameter under tension).  Fast Flight is a tad thicker than TS-1+, but not much.  For 12 strand I'd try the .025/.026 braided stuff... may be a hair loose, but that's easily fixed with some sewing thread below the nock point.

IMO, a lot depends on how twisted and tight are the string fibers. Also consider not only the center serving thread diameter but also how tight that's served.  In other words, there is no substitute for a bit of trial and error.  You WANT a loose nock fit, NEVER tight or in any way pinching the string - the arrow should fall off the string.  As to center serving material, the toughest and bestest I've found is BCY Halo.

If you want to stick with one size serving, just go with a smaller one and use dental floss to customize the nock fit.

I made a few 12 strand D97 strings this weekend. I used BCY .025 and the nocks fit perfect for me. Like everyone has said, trial and error. I know for the classic nock I had to add 3 strands of B50 under the same serving to make it work...

I get mine made so I don't know what # of strands but think this is a 8125 from Morrison for his Morrison, but with the Super NOcks on the GT's I had to go to .018 serving to get good nock fit without a judicious amount of emery boarding the throat.

Do you guys put the floss under the serving??

I don't particularly like the string I have now because it's kinda sm and my nocks once on flop side to side way to loose for my liking.A single serve with what I have is too small and a double is to much.I was kinda thinkin bout wrapping some floss under just last night....funny how things pop up LOL
Shoot straight and have FUN!!

Thanks guys. That dental floss trick will be just the ticket for what I'm trying to do. Will give it a try tonight.

After you serve the string(nock area) with dental floss, you can soak it with super glue and it last longer than the string.
