I'm looking for advice... please.
I have a bow that is finished with oil, but it has no handle.  I want to put a leather handle on with Barge cement and lace it.  Do I have to remove the oil in the handle area first, and if so, with what... acetone?
Thanks.

Is the oil wet?  If it's been there a long time, it should be dry/hard, at least dry and hard enough to glue on your leather grip.  Acetone is pretty strong, and if you get a little where the leather won't cover, you may mar the finish.  Denatured alcohol is good to clean up any surface residue before gluing.  Good luck.

I use tru oil on my bows for a finish.  The barge cement holds fine.  I sometimes like to wrap the grip with serving thread.  This holds things in place till dry and adds a nice finished look.
