I started shooting traditional bows when I was 15 and shot with my Dad and a group of target bow guys. All shot those beautiful wooden, highly lacquered target bows of the 60's and 70's. So I went right at it 3 fingers under.
When I went to hunting bows, I never shot any other way.
Never tried split, never had any issues with noise. But I must agree I see potential for less arrow control.
But at 57, I'm not changing.

Yournoc, Yeah I hear you. I was taught to shoot at age 8 by a guy that was ranked 3rd in the nation. Mr Decon Baliew. He was friends and hunting partner of Dan Quillian.

Now I'm 60, and I'm not changing either!  :biglaugh:

I've shot three under going back 35 years now. It's just easier and more comfortable. I don't notice any noise, but I do shoot a heavy arrow and use strings built to be quiet.

I do remember, back when I shot split, being annoyed that the metal nocking point would damage the leather on those nice Black Widow tabs.

Howl, you don't have to use metal, you can tie one on yourself.  :campfire:

My kids shoot split. I tie theirs. I never heard of anyone doing that when I was a kid.

Another reason some may not be thinking of is 3 under is not just for another aiming technique, sometimes it helps with getting a better hand to face fit.

What's the old saying about nothing new under the sun?

I've seen pictures of Pope and Young shooting  3 under. Back in about 2007 I had a dvd of a guy can't remember his name he instructed 3 under and I tried it when I shot a recurve, also had one of the saddles John Eberhart used in his dvds. Didn't care for either.

Now it's the new fad. Which is ok things come and go. What I find funny is when some YouTuber acts like he invented 3 under and tree saddles. There's a reason it fades and takes 20 years to resurface lol.

I learned to shoot split finger when I was in grade school about 60 years ago.

I tried 3U a couple years ago. At first I thought this might work, but as I shot more it wasn't any better consistency wise so went back to split.

Twenty or thirty years ago I read an article - might have been written by G Fred that 3U increased in popularity  once a certain bowhunter from Montana was seen shooting that way.
