I'm thinking of trying D97 - what's a good string recipe for a 50# longbow?  How many strands and what diameter serving for a good fit?  How many feet are on a D97 1/4# spool?

Thanks for your input before I order.

Just got done twisting up a 12 strand D97 string for a 50# longbow,.025 serving....fits Gold tips real good.  A buddy uses .024 halo on 12 strands of D97.

Just as a tip, I have recently switched to D-97 for making my strings, and I have found that it makes a huge difference in the noise level if you pad the loops with dacron. I like a 10 strand 3-bundle string with the loops padded to 18 strands with dacron, .024 halo serving. Fits my "X" nocks perfect. I really love the halo serving, and with those padded loops and a set of cat whiskers my bows are real quiet.

Let me know if you would like some pics of how I do the padding, it's pretty simple, I just figured it out sitting in the hotel room during the baltimore shoot.

I've been tying 14 strand D-97 strings, padded to 18 strand in the loops for my bows from 52# to 62#, with .024 Halo servings  Works good for 5/16 and 11/32 Bohning nocks on woodies.

Thanks guys.  Atlatl, still trying to figure out 10 strand, three bundle....LOL.  Wouldn't mind some pictures of the padding.  You don't have problems with mixing the dacron in the loops.

Oh, how many feet on a 1/4# spool - any idea?

rabbitman

Forgot to add I pad the loops with 4 stands of D97 for a total of 16 strands in the loops. Can't help you with the # of feet on a 1/4 spool.  Google BCY string material, info is problably on their website.
