I am wondering if the commonly accepted advice that you can only shoot plastic vanes from a rest is true?
I would appreciate any input on this as it would be very convenient to be able to shoot vanes from the shelf.

thanks

NO!!!!! You CAN shoot plastic vanes right off the shelf!!!!!

I have had VERY good luck shooting vanes. I shhot them with my nock point 5/8" above shelf height, and I nock the arrows with the cock vane up (in line with the string)
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

Hi Chuck

thanks for the input. I thought that this might be the case as my limited experiments seemed to give me decent arrow flight.

I always had bad luck shooting plastics right off the shelf...they always gave my arrows a nastey kick and left a colored streak on the side of my riser

I'm in the process of trying out the   "Rain Vane"
