Looking forward to drawing out for elk and was wondering if anyone has a set up for a 60#@ 28 1/2 draw w/250 grain broadhead usng the Alaskan Grizz/Stiks. I have the Sitka and some other Grizz but they are set up for different #'s. Shooting a 60" BW SA11.
Thanks, John

I HAVE SHOT THE ALASKANS AN HAD TROUBLE GETTING GOOD FLIGHT THEY R REALLY STIFF IF UR BOW IS NOT CUT PAST CENTER U WILL HAVE TROUBLE IN LESS U LOAD THE TIP HEAVY. MY BUDDY HAD GOOD FLIGHT BUT VERY BAD PENETRATION EVEN ON WHITE TAILS 65pd 750 gr ARROWS (cut passed center)WE BELIEVE THE SHAFT WAS  SO THICK IT ROBBED THE ARROW PENETRATION, THE SHAFT IS MUCH LARGER THAN THE BROAD HEAD FERAL. HE HAS ALWAYS HAD PASS THROUGH S PREVIESE OF THE ALASKANS. WE WILL B HUNTIN ELK +AS WELL THIS FALL, BUT WITH THINER ARROWS 650GR PLUS

good luck

Are you using the brass inserts?  If you are I'll bet the alaskan's will be too weak for your setup unless you cut your arrows down to 29 inches. With my RER TD and 31 inch arrows with brass inserts, at a little over 60# I could not spine correctly even with 125grain tips.  As far as penetration goes, I think that you would be fine.  I agree that the arrows have a pretty large profile, but with that draw weight and weight of arrows you should be fine from what I've read from the elk experts on this site.

We were using 100gr inserts,100gradpter,160gr ww,the over all arrow weight i think was u closer t 800gr the penetration problem i was talking about was based on 9 African animals mostly small to medium in size ,15plus whitetails with all good hits no big bone contact an i bet there was not a pass thru on more than 2. In the DOCs findings he said shafts larger than the feral results in 30% plus lose in penetration, an after my inexperience i believe. Take for what is worth, there`s know doubt they will kill a elk, but dont expect a pass thru.
