When you cut in the slot to attach stone points does it matter what direction the grain in the wood is?
Proverbs 12:27
The lazy do not roast any game,
but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.

John 14:6

I normaly cut against the grain. 3 hacksaw blades taped together work pretty good for the slot as a rule, then I sand down from there.
"I would rather be lucky then good, any day!"

Yup. I use a coping saw and a dremel. 90 degrees to the grain.

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

There's a coupe things to consider. Are you using machined shafts hand planed or a shoot shaft? With a shoot shaft it's a moot question.  I cut my self nocks perp to the grain. I like my points mounted horizontally out of my line of site. I don't shoot stone but make trade points. Therefore, the point has to be mounted with the grain. I wrap sinew behind the point so it won't split. Jawge
